Playing Poker at Planet Hollywood

Posted by Adriana Teixeira, April 19, 2015

Hello my friends! Let’s continue with the story of my Las Vegas experience.

After playing poker at the Bellagio, I decided to explore other casinos and I chose Planet Hollywood.

Planet Hollywood

Planet Hollywood is a great hotel offering some very nice poker games. I played one tournament with only about 17 players (if I’m not wrong). Top two would finish in the money. So, pretty hard, right?

My husband sat down to play that tournament as well; he was seated at another table.

Honestly, I thought it was my day! On one of my first hands I had AK facing QTo and instantly doubled up.

The field was pretty standard and I didn’t feel like they were good players. There was one aggressive player at my left and another one with a big stack who was loose aggressive and getting into the game pretty much all the time.

My husband was out after one hour and it was just me fighting for a share of the money.

After about two and a half hours, we were at the final table and I was second in chips.

I had 55 and a middle stack decided to push all-in. Since I was trying to accumulate more chips I called and he had AJ. The J on the turn gave him the winning hand.

Planet HollywoodI lost let’s say 35% of my stack. This kept me trying to mini-raise feel good hands but I was not very successful.

I remember that I had a great move with KK and I doubled up against A7o and suddenly we were only five players left.

The loose aggressive player started to steal blinds pretty wildly. After winning a big pot against two other players, he was chip leader and I had almost the same chips as one other player.

Since it was top 2 in the money, the player with almost the same amount of chips as me proposed a deal, whereby the second place money would be shared with third place as well. I was so confident that I could get into heads-up with the chip leader that I decided not to do that, but I wish I did…

I was on the button and I shoved K9s; the chip leader instantly called with QTo. I know it’s a race but I didn’t lose to any suckouts so far. I just wanted to win that race to have a chance to play heads-up. Then the Q on the flop bubbled me. Hurts, right?

I enjoyed the game but got pretty upset with the situation because I knew the game was easy and I had the opportunity to win, but this is poker. You have to win races, be protected against suckouts and play the best you can. I almost got it….maybe another time? I think this was my last game in Vegas. I miss Vegas already! Such an amazing place to play poker and have some fun.

Cheers,

Dri

What's It Like to Play Poker at the Bellagio?

Posted by Adriana Teixeira, March 3, 2015

Hello my friends! Let’s continue with my Las Vegas experience!

After New Year’s Eve came January 1st and of course I took the day to recover from a big hangover from the night before. I managed to relax a little bit.

On January 2nd, my dream started to became a reality: I checked into the Bellagio Hotel. Everything that I’ve always wanted was happening and staying at the Bellagio was one of the things I had long desired. It’s magical! You enter the Bellagio lobby and start to dream immediately. It’s something that even if I tried, I couldn’t describe it, because it mixes with your feelings and your heart. Maybe I felt that way because it was something that I’ve always looked forward to doing. Living that moment made me lose the ability to express the feeling in words.

Bellagio

The reception is amazing! I was treated so well! They’re really great at making you feel you’re worth it. They do everything they can to help you!

The decor of the hotel is perfect! So colorful, so charming, so… still full of Christmas spirit! You feel like you are in a totally different world where the only thing that matters is your well-being and happiness…nothing less! Walking through the hotel you see around you happy people! You see many slot machines, players drinking, laughing, and having fun. The music takes you to another place…something from the piano, sometimes from the hotel sound system. Trust me, I’m not receiving anything from them to tell you all this. I’m just being honest and trying to describe you what I felt staying there. If I could, I’d be a guest at the Bellagio all the time!

After getting to my room, which was totally awesome, I decided that I had to play a tournament at the Bellagio.

What’s it like to play poker at the Bellagio?

You see many tables and you don’t really know if they are playing cash or tournaments. The staff soon helps you get to what you’re looking for.  I had to show my documents and received a player card as a member, totally free.

I joined a tournament with 27 players and my husband joined as well. We played at different tables, of course, and believe me it’s easy to play there. At my table many players had no clue about poker. They were just having fun. I made a nice move at the beginning with my QQ.

I was on the small blind and an old man raised me 3 times. Of course since I was playing out of position, I needed to feel where I was. I re-raised 5 times. He immediately went all in. I was like: “What heck is going one? My third hand here and that move?” and I had at least 30 BBs and so did he. I thought and thought and felt like “Ok, he looks like weak to me…what the hell, let’s do it!” Do you believe he had ATo? I was like “LOL really…?” I doubled up and was cool.

Bellagio

During the game I didn’t get too much action and won a few pots, but nothing special. I made the final table, but my husband was eliminated before that stage. ITM was top 3. Tough, right?

Another cool thing is that you pay one buck to the waitress and she brings you drinks all the time. Just tip her and you are cool.

Well, when we were just 5 people left, I had an open-straight hand and went for it but unfortunately it didn’t work out.

I can’t complain! My first game at the Bellagio and I was out just 2 from in the money. Not bad right?

I don’t think it’s too hard to make money playing there. You need basic poker skills and a little bit of luck on the moves, but most of the people are looking for fun and drinks. That’s nice for you as a player.

Another nice thing, and I’m sorry I couldn’t be able to take a picture, but Patrik Antonius was playing in a private room not far from where I was playing. He was at the High Stakes tables and it was so awesome to see him. I’d love to talk to him but it’s a room with guards and you can’t go in, but at least I saw him very close.

After my tournament I went to my room and fell asleep. It was a four hour game and I was exhausted but I was happy to be there and very happy to have the chance to play poker there.

Cheers,

Dri

Las Vegas Experience – Part I

Posted by Adriana Teixeira, January 20, 2015

Hello everybody! Happy New Year!

I hope 2015 will be an awesome year for each and every one of you. Poker rules!

snowstorm in Vegas

I just came back from spending 8 days in Las Vegas and now I will write a number of posts talking about my experience. I hope you will enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing about Vegas, because it was the trip of my life! Believe me, I’ve been in plenty of cities in the world and not one was even close to Las Vegas. That place is magic!

I returned to São Paulo from Las Vegas last week and I miss it already! What a wonderful place to spend New Year’s Eve and have some good relaxation….well not exactly resting, but I mean vacation days! J

On December 31st we arrived in Las Vegas by car, coming from California and it was an amazing trip! We (when I say we, I mean me and my hubby) ran into a snow storm on the way and it was so beautiful! They said that it's unusual to see such a thing like that and I felt like it was staged just for us. Kind of selfish, huh, but it felt that way…

After a four hour journey we arrived at 5pm and our first hotel was The Linq. Wow! When you get there you see happy people, many slots around, casino tables and poker tables. The treatment in that hotel was perfect; they were really kind and always willing to help.

After check-in, even though I knew it was New Year's Eve I wanted to know about the poker games available in the hotel. What I found out is that cash games take place all the time and they schedule poker daily tournaments. I wasn't thinking to play that day, but it was nice to know that a hotel so cool like that had many options.

What you see, as well, is so many restaurants and bars and people from many nationalities. It's funny how Las Vegas has this awesome mix and you feel like you’re part of it.

At midnight on New Year's Eve the fireworks didn't last too long - just a few minutes, but it was great! After that, people ran to the slot machines, roulette wheels, and poker tables. I think they thought that on New Year's they would have some luck, or at least some fun! It was amazing to see how they did that.

I felt very welcome on my first day in Las Vegas. It was a great way to start my year - having fun in the city that never sleeps!

We will continue this story very soon!

Cheers,

Dri
